Default 1976 911 power window retrofit

Anyone out there retrofitted power window lifts to a mid 70's 911?

Search didn't reveal much. Door is prepped for switches from factory.

Am trying a new door panel RS style but faux carbon fiber. The window crank does not fit the look I have in mind

Sure, just scrounge the harness/switch/regulator + motor from a car so equipped. Used to do it all the time in the '80s when I had my first shop going, though there were quite a few less donor cars around.

Ken reminds me of the heart surgeon who tells you "bypass surgery is no big deal... I do about three a day..."

As a total amateur, replacing the window regulator in the car is an enormous PIA.... yes it can be done with enough time and money... I'll take a wild-*** swing and say you'll easily spend $2-3K for parts and labor.

Let me give you another take.... off the wall... go with RS door panels, and replace the regulator with a strap.... this was how it was done back in the day.... 911R-stuff... simple easy, cheap, light, and a cool retro-vibe...

If you get ambitious, replacing glass with Plexi is a DIY that will reduce weight.

What IS the big deal? Window regulator replacement (upgrading to the 3-point mount on the 2.4/2.7 era cars, maybe the SCs....I forget) was an honest 1.5 hours labor/side. R&R door panel and pop the window free of the lower part of the regulator. Drill for the new, extra lower attachment. Even if you want to go the extra in removing the window frame and upper exterior door trim, that's only a few minutes each way.

The hassle is running the wiring in/out/around when you're converting.

Thanks guys, what year parts are compatible? I was planning on getting new aftermarket motors and switches so I need to hunt down a diagram to see what else is different. Js

3 hours shop time plus the "hassle" of wiring... shop time around here is about $80-100hr... sounds like about $600 labor to me... plus parts... you have to source the power regulators... where do you get them?... used? ... do they work?... I don't know...

Would you quote this job, parts, and labor, for under $2K?

I don't care, just sounds expensive to me....

I couldn't see this being done as anything other than a DIY with scrounged up parts. And if I still owned a shop, that's what I'd tell a guy.
