Yes, you must remove the windshield, but it is not that complicated, just a PIA...
I had mine restored by Autos International, because it was a full Burgundy leather interior, and they did a nice job. If yours is not restorable, you may have a problem... OEM replacements may not be available. There is a thread about a week or two on this... worth looking it up...

Sourcing a new one is not possible at this time. I spent hours scouring the web looking for one. If your's can't be repaired, Lakewell.com is a great alternative. Probably better than a new one from Porsche and you'll save $500. Only problem is orders placed today won't deliver till mid-May.
