Default How good a deal is this?

First, it's great to be here. I'm about to be a first time 911 owner at the ripe old age of 49 (mid life crisis car). There is a wealthy friend of the family who said he'd sell me his 1999 911 hard top with 37,500 original miles, black on black with the exhaust upgrade for $19,000. Sounds like a great deal but I've noticed prices are all over the place. Car looks darn near new and he just has it fully serviced and inspected. He bought it in 2004 with 30,000 miles on it so he RARELY drives it. Should this be a concern?

You'll have much better luck in the water cooled 996 area. Experts smarter than I will be able to weigh in.

the crisis will be over when you get a 911.

There is a lot to learn before you get into a 996

99's are the best year to buy in 996's though.

996's offer the most bang for the buck in the 911 world. There are many detractors out there that focus on the cars negatives (IMS, Boxster front, interior, etc.), but I've driven thousands of miles in a friends 996 and it's a very capable and comfortable car. I'm not sure how it will hold it's value vs an air-cooled car but as a driver, they're nice. I personally have two air-cooled cars (a 3.2 and a 993) and prefer them to offer me a more "out of the ordinary" driving experience. They're much noisier and are comparatively "raw". Cheers
