Thumbs up

Do you have the parts diagram? Helps a lot...

Download here:

http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf...89_KATALOG.pdf

Workshop manual is also a great tool to have

http://www.porschepartshub.com/?p=ca...kshop%20Manual

or get the one Bentley puts out

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...umber=PEL-P983

As well as the book from Wayne

http://www.pelicanparts.com/Porsche/...BESTSL_pg6.htm

and congratulations on the purchase.

As others have mentioned... most likely the windshield seal and rear seal will need replacing simply because of age. But you will find out as soon as you are out and it starts raining Not something I read somewhere...that is all I am saying...

Spent a few hours today and am looking for thoughts from you all that have experience.

Cranked car and it didn't fire. Wish I could hear the fuel pump! Cracked fuel filter had gasoline spray out. Pulled coil wire from distributor, cranked car and no spark to ground. Will a Porsche coil check like an American made car. Should there be a spark to ground like an American car? If it should have a spark to ground and doesn't--where do you suggest I start to check things?

That was a big leap from "no spark" to "top end rebuild."
I was going to suggest you check the DME relay and power to the DME unit.

Default 88 911

Very interesting thread. I had a much older friend that shared a mutual interest in Porsche 911s. He had a 1988 911 Cabriolet that he had owned for 20 years. He would always tell me " I want you to buy this car" but could never quite bring himself to sell it to me. Finally after ten years he decided to sell it to me in July 2014. It had been sitting in his garage for nine years without being driven. I went a picked it up on a trailer and took it to my mechanic.....then after 9 months and a top end engine rebuild, complete fuel system replacement , complete brake system replacement, transmission bushings replacement, cabriolet top replacement, two gauges refurbished (gear replacement in the speedometer) , PDR dent removal and paint buffing/refurbishment....I have a beautiful car. I was trying to get this done as soon as possible because my friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer just after I bought the car....unfortunately he died a couple of months before the car was finished.....

Default Either we were all in or not at all

Had to laugh MDamen...you are absolutely correct. We just decided to take a leap of faith and go for it! We tried the conservative approach and it just didn't work.

We are looking forward to see how things turn out. Stay tuned!

Hey buddy, I just read your post and let me say that everytime you drive your car and a grin appears on your face your buddy is right there with you in that moment of enjoyment. When the car gives you problems hes shoulder to shoulder with you keeping you strong. Life has a way of teachibg us how we should be living. My opologies to the OTS I just saw an opportunity to cheer on a perfect stranger and couldnt pass it up. Good deeds should be passed on. The life changing experience of owning a classic 911 is amazing.

Congratulation!
Have fun with it!
The Carrera 3,2 is a great car, drove last month from Germany to south Italy visiting relatives, 2300 miles with no problems
