Default Highway robbery

Was out at vacation spot this holiday, which is Southampton, NY.

Decided to call a fairly new local spot, that always has great vehicles on the lawn, both new and vintage. I inquired about a L/O/F and NYS inspection. They said they would pickup my car for free (few miles away) and charge $430 plus tax!! What a joke and obviously didn't go there. Just amazing how some of these places try to overcharge and get away with it all too often.

That is crazy !!

I was on vacation in Montauk about 20 years ago and the restaurant in the hotel charged $6 for a glass of milk.

I asked the waiter if it was from "Golden" cow

HAHA, and Montauk is the "blue collar" part of the Hamptons, especially 20 yrs ago.

LOL. I have an uncle that had a beach front home in the Southamptons from the mid 70's to about '95 or so. It was his weekend place as his real nice place was at Two, 5th Ave. He paid $300,000 for it back then. You don't want to know what he got for it. The new owner even wanted his "car collection" in the 7 car garage and all the "extra cars" parked at the guest house (bigger than my 7 bedroom home). The guy wanted the furniture, the wine collection, the pinball machines, everything.

Was it on Meadow or Gin Lane and what was approx. sf??
Today, you can't even think about a beachfront home, unless it's over $20mm. Mid '90s, he must have sold for and easy $10mm.

Don't know about that guy, supposedly in La Jolla (San Diego), he had several cars listed online. I was interested in a few, called and left messages and never got a return call. Maybe he just likes placing ads and not selling cars.

I was a teenager the last time I was there so I don't remember. I did find it on google earth a few years ago. The house next door was supposed to be a convent, but the after hour traffic told a different story. A boat pulled up to the dock very night after midnight. A guy got off the boat with a briefcase and walked to the house. Then a little while later went back to the boat and sped off into the night. No one ever used the driveway or checked the mailbox. Freaky.

I do remember that his place was 3 achers. The main house must have been about upwards of 5,000 sf. I'll try to find it.

Highway robbery! Ha!
My father in law lives with us. He's 88 and pretty well worn out. (22 years with the British SAS will do that to you)
Anyway local nurse drops off a memory foam cushion for him to try on his chair that he watches TV from.
Just a normal cushion about 20" x 20".
They wanted $700 for it!
I asked if it had come from the Space Shuttle?

Found it. Now I just gotta figure out how to link to it.

It's the last house on Lynn Court off Lynn Ave in Hampton Bays.....Beachfront to Shinnecock Bay. I was thinking Southampton, but that looks to be a bit north. Still a place I could not afford.

haha! Sounds like typical government contracts, where a contractor will charge Uncle Sam, $150 for a nut and bolt!
