Default Faulty DME relay causes no cranking?

Hello,

On an 85 911 Carrera, can a faulty DME relay cause no cranking, i.e starter won't turn itself and the engine over?

Thanks.

That does not sound like a bad relay. If the relay is bad, it still cranks.

What Ice said. I just went through this with my 87 and that is exactly what my mechanic said. Ended up being the starter. Replaced with a high-torque instead of a remanufactured Bosch.

If it's the starter it should be pretty easy to replace on your car. In a G-50 you have to drop the transmission by a couple of inches to replace. In a 915 car is a straight job from what I read.

I have heard great things about these high torque starters as apposed to Bosch reman junk.

I chose the high-torque one based on some feedback from here. I think Ed had one on Ruby. They're smaller and weigh less than the original. It does have a different sound to it. So far so good.
