Default Vintage 911 2.2S engine

Does any vintage 911 owner (1972) without their original engine ever look for the original numbers matching engines?

I own a Porsche 914-6 with it's original engine on a pallet. In the car is a 1972 2.2S engine with MFI. An incredible engine that I am told is worth quite a bit. But to me, I would think getting this engine back into the 1972 911S would be the right thing to do. Granted the original 911S could have been wrecked or destroyed, but many simply upgraded to larger engines for more power, not realizing the future depreciation due to non matching numbers.

At any rate, I am rebuilding my 914/6 2.0 engine and want to find a home for the 2.2S. Ideally, it would be back in the car it came from originally.

Are there sites which match up the numbers?

I applaud the effort. There should be a site with people looking to reunite with original engines.

I have a similar situation. Found a 68s engine in my 914-6. This is your best resource: http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/forum.php

A '72 should be a 2.4l. Best way to be sure what it is would be to look up the type and serial number. Or post it and we will tell you.

Good on you for what you are doing. Great commitment to the community.

I have started the search for the original engine for my 1970 911E. It feels like I am trying to find the biological parents of an adopted child.

It is worthwhile matching the engine to body. It is Indiana Jones stuff. Doing your car guy duty

Post the engine type, and SN. If the engine is running and in good condition it is worth a lot of money... even if you cannot find the original car, having a year correct engine is worth alot to somebody restoring a '72S.

914-6 prices are spiraling... frankly, the original 914-6 engine with your car is worth more than the NOM 2.4S engine with your car, so selling it is a win-win for everybody.

Good luck to you... needle in a haystack...

But unless you are doing National Level Concours, doing a nice, period-correct engine on your car will pass muster... most Porsche guys understand that these cars got engine swaps...
