Spare tire hold down disc question / 1988
Hi Guys ,
I've always wondered why my collapsible spare always seemed somewhat loose even when tightening the plastic wing nut down all the way and it seems I've been missing the rubber or plastic welting that runs around the perimeter of the disc . I went through the Classic parts fiche and can't even find the disc / clamp yet alone a rubber edge piece . The rim is the standard red painted aluminum type . I have now seen several photos of the spare in place on other vehicles and realize it is missing - any idea of a part number ?
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Ron ,
Yes the molded filler is there along with 3 ( I think ) rubber blocks glued to the floor as well . I think that edge piece has some body to it - maybe 1/2 - 5/8'' thick .

Bryan

Hi ,
Thanks for responding . I looked at the Porsche Classic pages as well and what they show - particularly the bar that clamps the tire in place is different than what I have . I'm trying to find a photo of another CS ( although I don't think this is a specific CS part ) to illustrate . I have a gold anodized disc ( about 4'' diameter ) that rests on the wheel center and then the wing nut with plastic grip to hold it down . Other CS's have this , but with a piece of welting pressed onto the edge of the disc - gives some more grip on the wheel face and keeps the disc from scratching the wheel face . I'll try to find a photo and post .

You'll notice in the pet it list two hold downs.
The flat one illustrated is the clamping bow.
It also lists a fastening plate and claims that it is 90 millimetres in diameter. I'm guessing that is yours.
Now, the black rubber part that is under that could be supplied as part of that plate under the one part number.
OR
It could be the washer listed as part number 15. Note how parts 13 & 14 are listed as 8 mm? And part 15 does not state a size.
You need to contact Porsche parts and ask for the dimensions of part 15. And if it's not 90 mm ask if the fastening plate includes the rubber washer.
Remember that the pics in pet are not always to scale or even indicative of the actual supplied part
Failing all that you could ring some car dismantlers i.e LA porsche dismantlers.
I hope this is of some help.
