Default Seeking Advice for a RS conversion

Longtime 993 owner; pulling the trigger on a mid 70's non sunroof coupe that has me wanting to attempt a RS conversion. Pretty clueless about best places to source parts, which shops to use and how in depth the build should be. Would welcome the opportunity to chat with a few folks who have either done this themselves or had this project done by a competent shop. Located in the mid Atlantic region but open to shipping anywhere in the CONUS. Please PM me your details and best contact information. TIA

Hi ,
For general info purposes in case you weren't aware of it ; Porsche Classic has just re-introduced the 73 RS front fenders , front hood , and complete ( including the whole rear quarter to the roof ) rear fenders in thinner sheet metal . The doors ( or skins - not sure ) in thinner metal w/o mirror holes were also announced . I'm sure the prices are staggering , but if you want to do it right this might be the way to go . Have fun - you get can do a very convincing replica - been done many times .
Regards,
Bryan

How much work do you want to do yourself?

What are your skills?

Is this to be a street car or something else?

We've done quite a number of these projects and these are some of the many questions I ask my clients.

Are you looking for a shop that can do the work for you or are you looking for a parts source?

Major work Jay.
Looked around as I had something like that in mind for the 3.2, and will end up with a $50k project but not a RS.

Care to do a breakdown as I have been mauling over the same idea 3.2 to 73s conversion. I figured front & rear wings & spoilers, long hood & release conversion, brightworks, interior & of course glass out re-paint .... am I missing something?

$30K-$200K depending on what you want. GT Racing, MA Shaw, etc sell fiberglass body kits. Metal will cost 10X. What engine are you building? This could cost between $12K and $60K.

Bottom line, once you start building a custom hot rod, you can spend twice as much as you want, and four times what your wife would want.

The idea is to replicate the classic look of 73 with all steel panels & bumper with standard engine - I know what the interior & re-spray costs but not sure of panels and labour.

Fikse and Zuffenhaus - manufacturing and marketing arms - I have one of the original sets - on my old 1987 I had one of the first 10 sets.

I just spent 40 minutes detailing how I built my '72 RS clone and what it cost me then the
thing lost my draft so I won't be so detailed but I've had my car about ten to twelve years and still am finishing it what with other projects and responsibilities (read money needs)
And my buil has updated alum suspension Carrera, NOS 930 brakes ,torsions new
wheel bearings , bushings and sway bars.
Later Matter cage ,Recaro vintage seating real, RS carpet set upgraded gauges and I'm
just now installing a '95 993 3.6 from another stillborn project and it like totals close to
$35-40k not including my labor all but the paint rear flares and bumpers were installed or
Done by me.
The paint ten odd years back was about $6500 probably double that today unless your very chummy with the shop.
If you aren't doing much of the work your self add another $15-$20 K so that easily brings you too $55-$60 K is my car worth that today ,uhmmm, probably more $75 to $85
and I wouldn't consider less to let it go its a beast !!! Thanks and Oh I live in DC too , Bert
