Rear Speaker Grill Surrounds
The OEM rear speaker grill surrounds for SC and 3.2s are no longer available and the originals are often cracked. I found an air-cooled owner who fabricates beautiful CNC-machined replacements, reusing the original metal grill inserts. The shape is identical to the original differing only in height (about 1/8" taller) which allows clearing coaxial tweeter mounts, and a tasteful Porsche lettering. These are fabricated in small numbers when orders pile up. If anyone is interested please contact me via RL message and I will put you in contact with the fabricator.
See below: cracked original and replacement.

This is a great idea as my last 3 Carreras all had cracked surrounds.
On my current car, unaware of this option, I epoxied an aluminum strip to reinforce the thin cracked edge, then filled and painted.
It was a hundred dollars worth of trouble! And still not as good as this solution.
On a side note, I love how these creative solutions from enthusiastic owners pop up for these cars. The big, small, trivial (but important to the crazies like us) all in an effort of preservation or improvement.

I would be interested if they included the grills as a previous owner put after market rear speakers in my SC and I'm trying to get the car back closer to period ... Ron don't yell at me

I'm interested
Yes I have the same issue with my 1987 Carrera. I did find new surrounds and grills on eBay for less than $20.00 and the fit is nearly perfect except for the corners being slightly clipped.
For $90 it would be worth having an exact fit.

Dont mean to be too crticial, cannot believe people do this to their Porches, but seems to be very common. Maybe Porche fault for not using better stock radios/speakers in the older cars, but I prefer not to blame Porche like 30 years later since the rest of the car is so pure.

Here's a link to the Pelican Forums where they are discussing the speaker grills I purchased. Note: These are not exact replicas, but they are very nicely made and have a great look to them. Sometimes copying the original exactly is not a good idea since clearly many original speaker grills, if not most, have cracked. You will need your original screens with this solution although there are always other creative options for the screen.

No vendor (at the Hershey Porche Swap Meet last Sat.) had any surrounds, but Stoddard and AASE said I should contact them and look at their web sites and they might have them in stock or could fabricate them. DC Automotive rep also said he thought they might have some in stock as well.
