Check out the latest issue of Excellence - their Market Update shows 74 - 77 911s as:
Average = 17,000
Good = 28,000
Excellent = 35,000

About the same prices as SC's.

History, colour, matched numbers & originality should be taken into consideration in a big way too.

Here is one listed with similar mileage at a dealer in CA for $58K as a reference for the extreme high end.

http://www.mohrimports.com/view_inve...php?car_id=679

Another that was listed for $22K

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...che-911-a.html

Another one for $23K that is sold

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...diego-23k.html

74 Targa sold by Mohr, I do not know what the final price was.

The whole value of this car will be determined by: has the 2.7 engine case been properly repaired related to the head studs? If yes the high end is possible, if no the low end may not be low enough.....

74's are great cars - closest thing to a long hood - but like many have said - condition / color / 2.7 engine work...

But have to say - the 2.7 with the 7/31 gearing is a quick little car mucho fun to drive and the "S" had the same HP as the more $$ Carrera (at least the US Version)

Not sure this is quite true - I believe the Carrera had MFI and different cams, whereas the S (like mine) has CIS.

As for '74's, they are a lot of fun. However, the S had some different set ups depending on what was in the parts bin at the time it was built. Some had Koni or Boge struts, and some (like mine) had factory Bilstein struts. Mine also had aluminum S calipers, which I have switched out for the stiffer SC units. Mine also had the front fender oil cooler, which I have switched to a Carrera style unit rather than the trombone style.
Mine has had the cases certed, and I've put a top end in as well as trans refresh. I'm in $15k total, including the $5k purchase price in '99. Color has been changed a couple of times, and much of it is rough, but I've done all the suspension and brakes, so it drives well. If I put another coat of paint on it and spend a week detailing I suppose I'd get $18 or so for it. All #'s are matching and original.
I take it to DE's 4 or so times a season and drive it on summer days with so far no problems at all. A truly fun little car.
