Default EMMISSION FAIL HELP

LOOKING INTO A 97 911 CAR FAX SHOWS 5 FAILED EMMISSIONS LAST 7 YEARS IN EACH CASE EMMISSIONS PASSED DAYS LATER ANY REASON TO SHY AWAY ? THANKS

Yes and No.
If you have shop that can "pass" the 911, then it's not really a concern

You may get better answers on the 993 forum for a 1997 car.

That said, I suspect this car failed due to valve guides that are worn. When this happens, carbon fills the secondary air injection ports (SAI) and trips an emissions-related CEL.

This is not an inexpensive fix and should be factored into the car's purchase price. I'm a bit dated, but you should plan on about $7k - $10k for a top-end rebuild to address the port blockage and the valve guide replacement.

It could be readiness codes from the computer. Happened to me twice! If so, probably nothing to worry about.
