Default help diagnosing oil temp gauge issue

recently my oil temp gauge started working sporadically, i.e. 80% of the time....then in last few weeks it only seemed to work maybe 20% of the time...then nothing...needle jumps a tiny bit on startup but never moves...

I replaced the temp sender this weekend but still nothing...

any suggestions on next steps? must either be the gauge or the wire but not sure what best way to diagnose either is.....and I am a total newbie to anything with electrical diagnosing - not afraid at all to try just never have done anything with it...

Thanks in advance...

When you ground the wire off the sensor the guage should go to full deflection. Sounds like your problem is intermittent. Replacing the guage piece is very easy. I bought a lot that had a new sensor and a new guage with numbers instead of lines. Works well and is reversable.

Take the wire off the sender see what happens to the gage. Ground the sure see what happens to the gage
