Default Headlight out in the SC

Driving home from work I fnoticed that my front right headlight was out. Simple question is it just the bulb that needs replacing and if so what bulb do I need, or is it a fuse?

Check the fuse first. Easiest.
Then arm yourself with a screwdriver and dive right in. Taking the headlight out will tell you if it has a globe.
.............or...............

You can post a pic of your headlight and someone here will know what type it is.

Sorry for the newbie question. Where do you check the to see if the fuse is blown? Is there a number associated with the fuse?

It is time for you to source a shop manual.

Open the front hood, right side near the shock tower you should see a black plastic cover over the fuses. It's pretty large, maybe a foot long.

Lift off, there should be a diagram on the inside cover telling you which fuse is which. Sometimes the contacts get corroded, so try twisting it back and forth and see if the headlight comes on. You'll understand what that means when you get in there.

It's probably the headlamp. You'll need to get in there to see if you have the old style sealed beam (in which case you replace everything, including the lens), or the PO may have replaced those with something like a Hella H4 that will have replaceable bulbs (I think).

Start with the screw at the base of the headlamp ring, get the ring off, and go from there.

Thanks Mark for the detailed reply! I'll follow your instructions and let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.

The fuse is in good shape but the sealed headlamp is burnt out.

Now, Would it be possible to get the H4 conversion kit:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg4.htm#item14

And this primered h4 headlight rim:

To pull off the sugar scoop to euro h4 headlight conversion? This combo would be significantly cheaper than this route.

Unfortunately, this will not work.
The first link you provided will give you a lens with a replaceable H4 globe.
This will solve your immediate problem, and get you back on the road.

The second link is a trim ring that will not fit your lights. It will only fit the light kit you post in your third link. However, that says it has paintable trim included.

I hope this makes sense.

That makes sense. I'm surprised they are so much. $1200 seems super steep for the two lights.

I changed my sugar scoops to the euro light many years ago.
Your best bet would be to buy a sealed beam headlight for about $10 just to get you going.

Then start researching for the Euro conversion and try and find them for a better price.
I actually imported mine from Europe. And they were about $800 US at the time.

Here is the sealed beam unit, but you can buy the same light at your local auto parts store. There is nothing unique about it.

I think the cheapest way to convert to H4s is to go with the repro lights out of the Czech Republic (they don't say Bosch on them).

You'll also want a relay kit, which you can get from our Steve Weiner. I think Steve may still have the lights as well ($600 or so, I think).

Cheapest way to get rid of the sugar scoops is to convert to H5's. Those turn up used a lot, along with trim rings you need to paint.
