Default 3.2 Carrera - Euro vs. N/A spec

Is there a comprehensive list of the differences between a 915 Euro 3.2 and its US counterpart?

Interested in what parts may be different - looking to order some maintenance bits and pieces and want to ensure filters, belts and sparky bits are the same spec.

But would still be interested in what else may be different between the models besides the differentbumperettes, side markers, signals, lights, and higher compression engine.

Cheers

Matt

See if you can pick up WKD 423020. That is the complete tech spec book for 84-87 Carrera

Belts, oil/air filters are the same, plugs are different RoW uses WR4CC or WR4CP US uses WR7DC or WR7DP, these are the Bosch #

There are a lot of bulb differences, what's on
your car depends on who brought it over and what process was used to get it registered.

Trans gearing is a little taller in RoW 4,5 and a little shorter in RoW 2 and of course has the cooler which US models lack.

As always, thanks Bill for being so helpful. I will track down the specs book as you suggest. Great idea.

Cheers

ECU is different too and you can get them but you need better than the 91 octane we get here in CA. I had an 84 ROW here back in the day but the dwindling quality of the gas in the pumps here became a real PITA.

I have had a Belgium spec 85 for six years and there has not been any problem in getting parts. The few parts that are not the same, rarely need servicing. As Bill said, the extra power is nice and I like the tranny cooler...perhaps it's why the 915 still shifts so well after 100k and much spirited driving. The 15" Fuch's however are a real PITA to find decent rubber for.

Base wheels were an undersized 6/7 x15, same as was used on the much lighter '73 2.7RS, but the optional wheels were better 7/8 x15 w/ the same undersized 195/65 & 215/60 tires that the 6/7 used. There was also a 6/7 x16 w/ 205/55 & 225/50 x16 option.

From the pics I saw Matt has 7/8(maybe 9) x16 probably w/ 205/55 & 245/45 tires. I used both of the sizes at one point on my '76 Carrera 3.0, the 7/9 205/55 & 245/45 was the best street setup that I used until going to 8/9.5 x17 w/ 225/45 & 255/40 tires.

I ran the 7&8/16 which came on my 84 ROW from the factory.

I have the 7/8 15" version but the only dedicated summer performance tire that I have found for those are Pirelli 6000's at the TireRack (last August). I mention the date because the manufacturers have been killing those sizes so quickly that it's possible that they're dead already. I should probably buy another set of rears like I did for my last set to prolong the cycle. As you say Bill, although I used to run 205/225 in a NLA BF Goodrich, the Pirellis are only available in 195/215 sizes. Cheers

W/ 7/8 x15 most 205/225 tires are going to be R rated.

RA1 is streetable and comes in 205/50 and 225/50 x15
BFG G force rival is a performance street tire and comes in 205/50 and 235/45 x15

Hey Bill I had to check out availability on those tires and found that (at the TireRack) the "Rival" was only available 225/45/ 15 (not 235)....that would make the circumference over 2" smaller than OEM. I use the car in a variety of ways but often I tour with her. I was hoping to avoid changing revs per mile too radically. The RA1's seem unsuited to touring since they do not recommend the tires for the rain...I live in the PNW...LOL. Thanks for the leads though, I'd not heard of the Rival before.

There isn't one. The next in the series is WKD 423 920 for the 911 Carrera 2/4,
RS ('92), Turbo (965, '91-'93). There's only the 1988 'Fact Book' from PCNA (PMK 002188).

Good question on the wheel sizes - I had assumed 6 and 7 X 16, but will know more when I get her home.

Full disclosure - car was bought by my father in law about 8 years ago. He is from Stuttgart originallly - go figure.

Car was imported from Germany to a dealer in Halifax NS at 160,000KM (100K miles).

Pre-sale service included new clutch, tires, brakes (mybe just pads?).

It has been used too sparingly since, hence the sale. I look forward to driving it a lot and sorting out what needs doing - I will be picking it up after winter storage next spring. I love the feel of the earlier cars - and no AC, cloth seats were a nice plus (to me).

Cheers

Matt
