Hi Edward,

Yessir, the Stabil is used to combat the effects of ethanol, given that CIS systems are THE least tolerant of those issues. Its cheap insurance, given that most CIS parts are NLA.

I'm using Shell 93 in my "87 911. I add Stabil when it sits for a month or 2 in Winter, I have been told to also add Techron every 3,000 miles but then I was advised that Shell already has the equivalent of Techron added... is that overkill?

no way you should need stabil for a month or two.

My question to Steve W. was for regular fillups. And if I didn't mistake his response, he is still advising one to use Stabil (although I assume the smaller ratio for regular use, not the ratio for "storage" use). Though I specifically mentioned CIS systems in my post, the Carreras' motronic injection may not apply here. Worth asking for clarification, perhaps?

Note there is the Stabil for storage (red), and the Marine version (Blue) which is the one speciically formulated to combat ethanol effects.

Best,

Matt

We're lucky in this area to have a few stations that carry ethanol-free gas, as well as race gas.
This listing is vaguely accurate:

Default High Octane....USE IT!

I have owned a cis car for over 10 years and never put stabil in as a regular additive. Car ran flawlessly. I run shell regular gas as I have a lower CR 78 engine
I am fixing a broken head stud presently and the machine shop sent my heads back
... No work required. ,,, cleaned them and put new seals in

With today's gasoline formulations one only needs enough octane to prevent detonation. Purchasing gasoline with higher octane than required is, as Iceman says, sending your money out the exhaust. Now, ethanol, different formulations etc are a completely different discussions.

Cheers

Please remember that US & Canadian pump gasoline formulations are quite different, as mandated by our EPA.

I would not rush to make any comparisons nor draw any conclusions aside from their ability to burn.

guess this is true .. certainly explains why I get way less range in my car when I fill up in the US . I just thought I was driving faster

LOL. I've been told I was imagining things so many times I've given up the argument. Super, to me, is a much better fuel than Regular. Causes the car to run smoother, accelerate quicker, and get better mileage....but what do I know?....I've only driven 500,000+ miles in my lifetime. Certainly I have no idea what I'm talking about.
