911SC Cigarette Lighter
Am missing the cigarette lighter in my 911SC and tho I don't smoke in the car I want to get one to fill in the hole.
Have been able to find some, but so far have come across three different types:
- one has a silhouette of a zippo type lighter with a flame
- one has a cigarette with a swirling plume of smoke
- one has a cigarette with a zig zag plume of smoke
The 1980 brochure I have shows the zippo lighter style, but wanted to see if there is a 'correct' version? If I am going to replace it may as well go with an original look.

Hello Arctic1,
My SC is a 1978, so its lighter may differ from what was used in 1980, but I am writing now to say I'll check mine in the morning and get back to you.
That is a beautiful picture of your car. Cashmere Beige, right?

Are you looking for the "socket and Plug" or just the "plug". I have an extra, but I am 95% certain it is a 964 part#. I'll be happy to send it to you if you run into problems finding the correct one.

I saw your car at tthe Yorkville show .. it looks really great .. although I am not to hot on the aftermarket scoop on the front .. I think you installed a Carrera cooler anyway didn't you ? you should take that thing off as it spoils the awesome lines of that car ..

Thanks for the info. Now to go out and find one for myself. There was one on eBay at a decent price ($30) but I was sleeping at the keyboard that night.

Cool. I've only had mine for a couple of months and thought it was really neat that the 'famous' cashmere beige 911SC was based in Canada as mine is. Quirky connections make statements with me.
My only concern tho is that I am starting to think that at some point I might need a paint job to address some issues.... After reading the Excellence articles am not so sure I want to go down that path (or at least not yet).

The one with the silhouette of a Zippo type lighter with a flame is the stock lighter on my '80 SC Targa.

Thanks - its the zippo look for me I guess.
Altered my search criteria on eBay and have found several of the style - apparently the 914 used this lighter style a lot.

No, the 914 lighter won't work.
The SC changed lighters from the zippo to the lit ciggy some time between '80 and '82. '84 3.2 911s also had the late SC style lighters.

Hello Iceman,
Can't help it, I like the scoop because it simultaneously looks 'factory' and 'incorrect' and I can at least imagine that it helps cool the oil. My colleague Jim Kenzie of The Star has this thing about anything that's not symmetrical, like the exhaust on the BMW 533i I used to own, and on this subject as well as many others Jim and I are in complete disagreement. I enjoy the appearance of the scoop on one side, nothing on the other.
