My name is Sean and I am a returning member. I owned an '84 Cab which I sold five years ago. Yesterday I purchased an '87 Targa, 81,500 miles, factory chin and rear spoilers, 16 Fuchs, Diamond Blue Metallic with Burgundy interior and a factory alarm. No paint work, no rust, no smoke, small oil leak around return tubes, no cracks in dash, some wear on seats (no holes), Targa top in OK condition, overall a really nice driver. Just for the record, I paid $18,000. I am no expert, but it seemed right on the market and $1800 less than the Seller was asking.
A few questions. I have the original Blaupunkt radio. I am interested in replacing it with a simple Blaupunckt with a CD and maybe an AUX input. Any suggestions on the best place to buy one?
Are there any aftermarket Targa top vendors? I would like to get mine re-done and then not use the original as much.
This Board is great and thanks.

We all have a "icon series" thread going on. Take some time to read through these. It is sure to make your dip (or I should say re-dip) into 911 ownership that much more special.

Diamond Blue is just a great color, isn't it?
Blue in some light, gray in others. I'd never think to pair it with Burgundy, but from what I can see, it looks great.

Sean, nice looking car. Targas are great I love my '88.
Regarding your questions I went to SW Stereo, talk to Stefan. 1-800-270-BEST www.swstereo.com
I ordered a replacement blupunkt "Dearborn" model which looks just like OEM except for CD rather than cassette. They set it up with an auxillary cable for iPod comming out of the back, runs under the carpet and comes up between the seats. No wires to be seen and all I listen to is my iPod. After I got the new radio in, found out that my front speaks were blown also and got a nice set from SW. Sounds great.
Re: your question on targa tops, I think that there were two questions?
- Recovering exisitng? There is a guy here in Boulder, Dave Brown that is well known.

I've seen posts of a guy in NJ, but haven't followed that since I have someone local. Have not priced, but I think it will be pretty expensive (what isn't on these cars?)
-Replacement top? Wasn't sure if this was you question. Looking for something like a hard shell replacement? Have seen some on eBay, they require some additional drilling. I too was interested in that, but then I thought that eventually I'll just get the Targa top re-done so wasn't sure why I was doing that?
Hope that helps.

Yes, great, it helps a lot. I will follow up with Stefan. Regarding the Targa top, yes it was two questions. You answered both. I will follow up with Dave. I thought of having my top re-done then having a spare top just to throw on in case of rain.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I agree, it's a really neat color. I had not seen it before going to see this car. It matches really nicely with the burgundy. A nice contrast, not too harsh.
Thanks.
Thanks.

So, I have returned yet again to 911 ownership with my third air-cooled 911. The above '87 911 Targa I was forced to sell in 2012 due to a job change overseas.
I have just today purchased another 911, and oddly enough, another 1987 Diamond Blue Metallic, 67,000 miles, stock and all original, records since '88. It seems to be a really great car.
I am looking forward to jumping back in.

congrats, welcome back. great looking Targa. I am not a marketing guru, but now and then I follow the market for '84-89 911's... it seems like this price is very low, $18,000? I would've guessed more... $32K perhaps more, a G50 Coupe in excellent condition would bring $45K
