I looked at a 99 911 at the porsche dealership. It includes every option. New brakes and tires 6 months ago. It has a starter problem, the battery checked out fine, alternator is working, they think it might be the starter. They are going to fix the starting issues and warranty the starting issue repair for 12 months. It was just traded in on saturday. It was listed for 23,990. I am also having an independent inspection to confirm repairs and quality.

This is what we negotiated:
$22,000 purchase price
$2,500 for my trade - 1998 Ford Explorer Limited Edition
Taxes + Title + Processing Fee total 1,200 more.

Does this seem like a reasonable price?

I think you need to go a little further down the list as (here anyway) the last 911 was built in '89. Great looking car, but it may be more like a 993 IIRC. Great find if it all checks out. It doesn't sond like a great price, it sounds like a smokin' deal. I'd go to Amazon and order "the used 911 story" by Peter Zimmermann.

P.S. How many miles? And....if it is a 993 you get the simplicity of aircooled and the newer style.

I agree with Doug. That is a very nice looking car, and you will likely get much more help if you post on the 996 Forum. (not to insult your intelligence, but the link is on the left side of your computer screen, under Rennlist Forums, Air/Oil Cooled... then 996).

Call me skeptical, but I doubt it really has "every option".

As noted above, there is a forum for 996's here. You may want to do some searching using the terms "RMS leak" "remanufactured engine replacement" "case porosity", to name a few.

I'd say that's an average price-you can find quite a few in the teens these days. I think there is a reason for that.

Seems like a pretty good price, especially considering it's a dealer, assuming no RMS/IMS issues. Have it checked out at a different shop.

there is a lot of bad press about the cars from that era having poorly machined crankcases. I would want to see records. It quite possibly is a good deal on a good car. Look at the records. The dealer can give you every thing that was done by a Porsche dealer. If they say they can't, don't believe them.
get records and a PPI.

Whenever I see a replacement steering wheel, I think "in a wreck, airbags deployed". I'm not saying that is the case here, but it is enough of a red flag to look closely at the paint condition, carfax history, etc.

you may want to ask if the engine was replaced...these engines are well known for problems with rear main seal and needing total rebuild.
