Cabriolet Hard Top
Gentlemen,
I currently have a 1983 911SC Cab and I am not really a Cab guy. (Noise, heat soak, etc). I having been looking around for a Hard top for the car (similar to the ones they make for a Boxster, etc).
I tried searching the forums, but my terms didn't come up with anything helpful. Does anyone here know where to get one, or how much they cost, etc....
Thanks!

Three Wheelin'
I have never even seen one. Are you sure they even exist. I know they make them for late models but Porsche never made them for our vintage. Maybe there is an aftermarket version.

There was an Factory hard top IIRC, but I've never see one on the market.
Here are a couple of after market tops.

The teal cab above is a factory top.
Here is a link to the red top pictured above

And a non functioning link to the silver 993 top.

Link to more info on the tops and what it may take to get them to work.

I have no affiliation or experience with these tops, but I would imagine a healthy dose of patience will be required to get them set up properly.

Oh My, a factory hard top!!
I may need to call some folks in Germany and see if they can find me this piece, how cool is that and looks perfect.
Anyone want to elaborate if they ever have seen one of these on any 911 from 83 to 1998?

I saw one with in the last year. It was for targas or cabriolets but I can't remember where I saw it. I think it was like $4,000. I would just buy a Coupe if I were you. The cabs are worth more also.

Sadly, the original OEM hardtops for the 1983 and on 911s were so pricy that few were ever produced and sold to cabrio owners. Finding one would be virtually impossible. (Those that have them will never sell). That's why several aftermarket firms got into the business of copying them. This is what Porsche originally offered (see picture one).
By the 996 models Porsche completely changed the cabriolet top design and created a different style hard top. As a cabriolet owner I like the option of either going full top down or pseudo-coupe!
The green 911 hardtop-cabriolet is a very special order car. It has one of these hardtops WITH an electric sunroof in it as well. I know personally of two cars with such a top. The other was a speedster than had such a sunroof-equipped hardtop delivered with the car.

As of roughly two years ago, it was my understanding that they still have some in stock at Porsche AG.
To echo the previous comment, "the original OEM hard tops for the 1983 and on 911s were so pricy".. however they were offered as a special order option at around $8,600 if memory serves me correctly.
At that price they just didn't sell. I have seen only two over the years. Also keep in mind that they require complete removal of the soft top to install.
Check current availability through your dealer... you'll have to get'em to work with you though becuase they're gonna think you're crazy!
Try part # 911.561.901.00 (83-85 SC/Carrera) or 911.561.901.01 (Carrera 85-89)

I would think that the hardtop for a cab, would be just about killing the future use of the car as a Cabriolet. Who would want to drive around, without the hardtop, and not even have any of the cab trim, or parts. It might look like someone had just used a saws-all to cut all of the top from the car. I guess it could be called the hill-billy look, because a Cab without any of its components, would not be something to look at.
The last time I saw one of the factory tops for sale, it was right at $9,000.00 and this was about 5yrs ago. I believe it was in the classified section in Excellence mag.

I thought the cab top comes off with some ease, never took one apart?
Maybe the idea is cooler than the headache to convert.
I just like the fact if one wants to go coupe for a couple of years, no problem.
If it was like $2000 I can see it happeneing, Pelican has it for about $6k + painting and install special order.
Thanks for the part #'s onboost.

Clearly, the installation of the hardtop for those years could not be a complex chore. (When the 996 and 997 designs dictated an entirely different design approach they came up with a faster installation. It takes me about 8 minutes to install or remove my hardtop).
