Honestly my advice is that yes, you can get the nice shiny optima however I would just get the cheapest thing that fits and has a good warranty. I.e the Intersate, the Sears....etc. Save your money. You are not going to start your car in the dead of winter so it shouldn't be a problem. Actually, come to think of it I think I have an interstate battery in my car and I have started it at about -30F with out a problem.
Just make sure you look at the different threads as to how to correctly fasten down your battery. I think the common mod involves bolting it down to a plastic cooking board or something.

I use Sears Die Hards. They can test the battery and, if needed, charging system for free.
I drive my 911 everyday so readily available replacement is important.
That said, I now have one from NAPA ...a fluke.
I find usually the battery lasts the warranty period, and not much more. So I start thinking about replacement with lapse of warranty.
Sometimes they don't last. If not then you are likely to get another at that same source.

I agree with Nine11, I got a Odyssey battery, but at the end of the day a cheap one will work just as well I guess. ( just my 2 cents worth )

Whatever is convenient to buy. As I understand it, there are only two battery factories in the US.
BTW, the OEM Varta battery in my M5 lasted 7.5 years - not bad for a daily driver. Like Optima batteries, they are made by Johnson Controls.

Interstate is the OE battery for your car and many MBenz cars today. They have the vent tube that is critical. both the Whittier and the Upland DC's have them in stock.
Yes, I sell to Interstate Battery DC system so I am Bias.

In the recent years for my 911, I got Odyssey. It's heavy at hell too, an interstate (recommended) at sears. The guy said it is the strongest in the store. Couple days ago I got an autozone battery for my Lexus. The autozone battery comes with 8 years warranty, 3 years jump for free anywhere and free replacement too. I would go to autozone next if they have one for our car.

I've used Die Hards for many years in all types of vehicles and boats, and frankly, I don't think they are "what they used to be". When the huge & HEAVY Interstate (Porsche logo) in my 911 needed replacing, I went with an Optima red top, and have been very happy, plus you minimize the possibilty of corrosive acid inherent with many others. On a side note, I've also got Optima blue tops (deep cycles) and a red top (starting) on my bass boat...they just last and last (far longer than others) so imo, you "get what you pay for" in the long run.

Ah, a good place for my Optima red top/Interstate battery story.
I bought my 911 in 2005, came with a red top dated 1991! I owned a Firestone dealership at the time, where I sold Interstate batteries. I tested the red top and it still put out about 600 cca, but I just couldn't stand to leave a 14 yr old battery in the car. I replaced it with an Interstate and when the car would sit for weeks or a month, it would need to be recharged (same issue with a SAAB I have, BMW, etc).
Meanwhile, I never charged the red top. We used it at the shop for various needs, and I used it at home for a couple years for timing light use or to power whatever. Last year, I put it in a race car and it started right up. We used it all last year (sitting most of the time, connected, not being charged) and now this year, we put it in the Lemons race car and no problem again (still never put on a charger). It's now deep into its 17th year. Unreal.
So, for about $30-$50 diff, I'm sticking with the Optima red top. Sure, you can get a cheaper battery (neverstart, duracrap, etc), but the hassle of dealing with that junk, always at a bad time, just isn't worth it to me.

Odyssey or Optima (since most of us use Optimas)?. Odyssey (from what I've read) makes great, really light weight "smaller" batteries (ideal for race cars), etc. without a lot of auxilary stuff on them, but I don't think I'd go that route on a street car. My red top Optima is the larger one 34-78 (880 CCA) and I've purchased all of my Optimas from Autozone.
