Default Headlight relays - where are the wires to the headlights?

I'm going to install relays for my headlights. It just seems to be a good idea so I can hopefully avoid the switch replacement; besides, I already have the relays and then I could get brighter bulbs w/o worrying abot the stock wiring, etc.

I'm having trouble locating the wires that feed the lights.
Does anyone have pics of the factory wire harness locations, etc that might point me in the right direction?

Hi Dan,
My car is a 76 but I'll tell you where mine are.
Going from the driver to the front of the car there are 3 separate fuse blocks next to each other under the cover.
The first has 3 fuses, the second has 10 fuses, and the third has 8 fuses.
The headlights are in the 3rd block (closest to the front of the car) they are the first 4 fuses in the block of 8.
That block of 8 is labeled (from the drivers end)
1 High beam left
2 High beam right
3 Low beam left
4 Low beam right
5 Parking light left
6 Parking light right
7 Licence Plate light
8 Fog light

I hope this is of some help. If you need me to take a pic, just say so.

Good luck

Thanks frank,
I was actually hoping somone that had done the upgrade would have pics of their layout/setup. I guess I wasn't very clear about that in my original post. (Too much holiday cheer I suppose!)

I want to do this with as little molestation to the factory harness as possible. Someone out there must have a few pics of a quality relay installation.

No worries Dan,
I suppose all you have to do is neatly mount the relays.
When I have done other cars (my porsche hasn't been done yet) I attempt to mount the relays close to the headlights and I use a larger guage wire to go from the battery to the relay and then to the lights. I also make all the wires to the lights the same length so that their resistance is the same.

When you get it done put some pics up for me

Dan

Here is my installation of H4s & relays H4 Upgrade. It is quite satisfying to hear the snap of the relays.

Pelican shows it clearly mounted at the fuse box.

Dan,

Once you locate the correct fuses, remove the wire to the headlamp and place aside. Get a new wire and connect the stock fuse to pin 86 (coil) of the relay. Ground pin 85 (other side of coil).

Add a wire from the battery, place a 20 amp fuse in line, and connect it to pin 30 of the relay. Connect the existing headlamp wire (the one you removed fromthe fuse block) and connect it to pin 87. If you have proper headlamp relays, you will have two pin 87's. One each for each filiment inthe headdlamp.

You will have one relay for high beams and one relay for low beams.

This is my recommended wiring diagram. For my car, fuses 1, 2, 3, and 4, are the stock locations to power the headlamps. Note that fueses 2 and 4 are not used for headlamps but can be used to control auxillary lamps via their own relays.

OUTSTANDING!
Exactly what i was planning. I get the whole schematic/wiring diagram part; it's the actual mounting and routing of wires that makes it troublesome for me. I generally end up with a rat nest of wire that somehow gets confusing to me at a later time.
I'm hoping to avoid this issue on this project by thinking it through BEFORE I start cutting, routing and mounting parts, etc.
