Default Strange issue with the Cayenne today... maybe bad gas... not sure...

We were driving on the interstate today and the Cayenne seemed to lose power intermittently. It seemed to sputter and chug, and then it would drop down into a lower gear and get going again. I feels more like a fuel problem than a spark problem, but I don't know. I got no warnings or CEL, it just didn't run right. I made it home, and I'm thinking it may have gotten some bad gas. Any other thoughts? Could this be a failing fuel pump perhaps?

I had them replaced about a year and roughly 20,000 miles ago. When my original set of coils went, the vehicle ran rough, smelled like burning sulpher and I got a CEL. I have no such issues this time. It idles fine, there's no CEL. It seems to have the problem intermittently and when I'm at highway speed.

That's my concern also. So much for our 4th of July trip up to Breckenridge - it will be a little tight in the 911.

I remember it like it was yesterday. I was about to enter the highway as my P!G pathetically died in action. And there I was, stuck in the middle of an intersection for a good couple of hours, waiting for a tow truck.

Dealer replaced the pump only to have it die on me again within a week. That car has fulfilled my sense of adventure for the next 15 years, that's for sure

Alright... off to the mechanic it goes tomorrow.

The trip to Breckenridge to see fireworks is still on. We're taking the 911 with one small child in the back, my older son's Volvo 850 (glad I'm not riding in that one) and my younger son's Audi Allroad. It will be another adventure, that's for sure.

At 20,000 miles my 2009 Cayenne GTS suddenly exhibited the same running symptoms...luckily we were only 20 or so miles from the selling dealership. The truck would idle, run at OK at low throttle inputs but with any application of throttle, stumble and miss. I called the Service Manager and he said it was safe to drive the vehicle to the shop.
They immediately troubleshot the problem suggesting bad fuel and I agreed to replace the fuel filters (at $360). This did not fix the issue...so...they gave us a loaner Cayenne. A week later both fuel pumps had been replaced under warranty.
18 months later and with a total of 49,000 miles of road use, the problem had never returned and the GTS was otherwise totally dependable...so...the fuel filters were a "small price to pay" in the end.
We have traded it and are awaiting a 2012 Cayenne Turbo to arrive (shipped from Germany on June 16)--hopefully it will be as dependable....and....BTW--the GTS used only 2 quarts of oil in 49,000 miles. I expect the CTT to be much, much worse in that department.
I bet you have the fuel pump issue too and hope you don't get stuck paying for fuel filters you don't need.
