Ya know how people are always cracking their windshield when the wiper arms snap down? Well, I don't have that problem. In fact, I have the opposite. I'd LIKE Them to go down further.

What I bought to replace my aging windshield wipers were Michelin wipers, the springy ones that are supposed to 'hug' the windshield. The only issue is that my wiper arms don't press down far enough to hold the center of the wiper against the glass. Here's what I mean:





As you can see, the end of the arm (especially on the driver's side) doens't hit the windshield at all and as a result, the wiper doesn't hold against the windshield.

I've tried bending the arms but that doesn't work. The center of the arms still don't press down hard enough on the windshield. I took apart the wiper apparatus to attempt to reseat the entire motor and apparatus on its mounts with no luck. I've tried reseating the arms, making sure the splines are in tact and they are.

I don't know how to fix this. I'm stumped. Any ideas??

Sounds like I tried all three

1.) The blades are the right ones according to the Michelin book o' blades. They're standard in all ways. They're the bendy ones which hug the windshield,similar to the RainX ones.

2.) The spring isn't adjustable, is it? It's definitely a strong spring but there's no way to let the arm drop any further than straight out because the arm's base itself stops the spring from closing any further.

3.) I bent the arms too. What happens is that the bend in the wiper has enough umph to hold the middle of the blade up no matter the bend in the arm. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow if the rain stops to show you what i mean.

4.) I swapped arms. The passenger arm hits the glass. When placed on the driver's side, it doesn't.

I'm not sure what to tell you because mine have the same problem on the passenger side when I went to the same style of blades that you're talking about. I never had the problem before so I'll end up fixing it by going back to the original style when these need to be replaced.

I had the monoblades and they didn't make good center contact. I went back to normal blades and it's good.

i had the same problem, but with the bosch variants. i got fed up with it on a rainy day and stopped by meijer to pick up some other kind. i got the rain-x brand of the standard style (with multiple arms that extend down to the rubber) and it works great now.

Try a double bend, to make the arm have a step-down shape. So it looks like this: ____/****

this thread makes me laugh! haha +1 on rain x except it leaves streaks but whatever drive fast and problem solved haha. but on a serious note. take the 13mm nut off and put the arm down more. i did that on mine and fixed the problem

What do you mean "put the arm down more"? They won't go down on the splines any further. I've had the whole wiper apparatus out trying to adjust it as well. There's no slop in the alignment of it. It mounts how it mounts. There's absolutely no adjustment in any of the mechanisms which drive the arms or the arms themselves. I'll try bending again but I don't have hope.

Looking at your pic again, I notice the arms bend up and then bend straight again. I recently R&R'ed my 968's wipers and they don't have that bend. Maybe if you just straighten them out it will help (which would basically achieve the same thing as my last post). Good luck.
