What is the stock Amps and CCA of the Stock battery
Is it the Moll 570/65 70ah 340A?
Because the 2001 BMW 750iL second battery BMW P/N 61 21 8 381 738 seems to be a perfect fit without adapters. 70Ah 570 A 120 RC 570 CCA. It locks in place on all three corners with the plastic molding of the battery
At $125 it seems to be a possible solution. I have yet to try the battery screw in lock as I do not have one. I was able to get an 88 928S4 battery hold down to fit ok, but we will know for sure when I can locate the proper locking screw thing.
Seems it is also the battery for some of the new BMW 3 Series
01 BATTERY FA. DOUGLAS (WARRANTY ONLY) 70AH 570A 1 61218381738 $137.27
01 BATTERY FROM EXIDE (WARRANTY ONLY) 70AH 570A 1 61216946332

thanks for the response. The BMW battery seems like a good option. I will go pick on up, try it out, and report my findings.

My 04 came with the Moll 570/340 in black casing. And when it died, the dealer replaced it with a Moll 560/280 in white casing. They are sure that was the correct one. FYI, the GT3 uses a smaller/lighter battery than regular 996.
If you are exploring alternatives, here's a very recent thread on batteries. I think most are happy with the red top Optima:

I got the BMW battery, the part I gave is the old part number but they had the newer replacement just the same BMW P/N 61 21 6 946 332 (70AH). The battery is a perfect fit. It locks right into place (although I am missing the GT3 battery locking piece and using a 928 version I had in the parts bin)
The BMW battery is in the white casing and made in Italy. Seems to fit perfect, start perfect ect so far. Plus it has the posts in the proper location with the vent tube in the proper spot.
This battery is the smaller lighter version BMW battery that is found in some of the smaller BMWs and also the second battery (accessory battery) found in the jumbo BMWs.

If the BMW battery you got was Made in Germany, I would've guess it's probably the same battery with different labels. Anyways, if you do not drive your GT3 regularly, consider getting a battery maintainer as these little batteries don't seem to hold charge as well as the bigger ones.
