what year?

85.5 and pre 85.5 use different systems.

the 85.5 and up the spedometer sensor is on the transmission. sometimes when mine gets wet it stops working.

The early cars (pre '85) have a cable which runs from the back of the gauge to the front left hub (assuming its an left hand drive car). The cables do break with age.

okey, i am not familiar with this car but on the left fender just by the fuse box where it says he vehicle weight and all it says 1/85. so im guessing thats the year. and yes im going to post up some pics by tomorrow so i could get a better pic of it. honestly it is not bad for a $200 buck's it runs and drive's. and by the way i replaced the air filter this morning and i found some oil at the bottom of the air box (warm oil). thinking, how in the world would oil get there? i have no idea. and on this car it has DME so it says on the user manual. so yeah please educate me about this car and how in the world can i get that spedometer working. coz cop's around here dont seem to like porsche's, they tend to pull them over if they just went just a lil bit over the speed limit. and instead of paying for tickets i'd rather spend it on the car.

if the fusebox is in the engine bay you have a later car. to be sure, does your dash look like:

okey, so yes mine is a later car. and i went underneath the car and on the engine looking for a spedometer cable of some sort but i cant find it, the thing is i dont even know what im looking for and how the speed sensor looks like and what im supposed to be looking for. i was told that there are a couple of 944's at the junkyards and i might find what i need to get that spedometer working but i dont even know what i should get and what it looks like and where its located at. i tried looking for a repair manual at the local auto shops like auto zone and stuff and they dont have it... is there any way some one could give me a hint on where to start?

Here's a place to buy speedometer impulse sensors. There's one for manual trannies and a different one for automatics. When my speedo/odometer stopped working I needed a new one of these. It's located on top of the driver's side of the tranny. There's a wire spring "C" clip that holds the connector on the sensor. When you remove this spring clip be careful it doesn't pop off and get lost. You'll need to raise the rear of the car on ramps or jackstands to be able to access this part of the tranny.

The parts are listed about halfway down this page:

i have made out my mind and decided to do an engine swap from NA to TURBO. so other than the engine complete with the turbo charger and turbo manifold, ecu ( brain ). what else do i need? would i need the turbo ecu harness too and the clutch and bell housing from the turbo? or can i just take the turbo with the trubo manifold and pipes all the way to the cat and the ecu, fuel injectors and just bolt them on?

you need everything from the torque tube forward, the harness, DME and KLR from the donor car. You will also need to upgrade the brakes and suspension if you want it to be a turbo car. Search is your friend on this one but it would be cheaper to sell your NA at a profit and buy a Turbo car. On the Speedo problem, It might be the gear in the tranny ( sits underneath the sensor you replaced) and make sure it is lubed up real good.
