I understand from the local DE coordinator that my 944 S2 Cabrio cannot even run in drivers ed'n without a roll bar. Has anyone solved this--or even seen a Cabrio that had a roll bar added? Any help appreciated.

Its actually more of a harness bar / chassis brace.

you should be able to run a DE in your car w/o a rollbar, just need to leave the top up.

check the rules out on www.pca.org should be on there or somewhere w/ the pcna if its a porsche event. If you had the top off, you would need a rollcage, or if you were racing.

Autopower sells (or at least used to sell) a bolt in rollbar for the 944/968 Cabriolet (bolt in w/ some drilling). I purchased one 2 years ago from OG Racing. Its been sitting in my garage waiting for a chance to install it. Do a google search and see if they're still available.

I was unable to run until I added a rollbar into my 944. I think the boxsters are held to a different standard because of the factory roll loops

Here are pics of my autopower bar (like $350) but you do have to cut panels to make it fit.



Also, if you want to clear your head you need to have lowered seats. No rollbar out there will clear the broomstick test with a helmet (for me) without the modified seats.

You need a roll bar to run in DE's if your running a 944S2/968 Cab. Even the 911 Cab's pre 99 (I believe was the year for the redesign) couldn't run. The boxster is different because it has factory rollover protection.

Note that in most regions you need to pass a broom Stick test even with the roll bar. For me that does not work with a helmet on.

I don't think Johns will work in a cab, I don't believe the cab has the rear mounting points for it to attach to. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Broom stick across the wind screen and roll bar, the head needs to not only clear it but have I think an inch to spare.

Redline is more expensive then a real roll bar not to mention it doesn't fit into a cab.

Thats why I said you need to use different seats to get the clearance needed to pass the test.

"With the top down, a broomstick handle or other straight object is placed between the windshield and the highest point on the roll bar (factory bar, aftermarket roll bar extender, or aftermarket bolted in roll bar). There must be sufficient clearance (1" Minimum) between the bottom of the broomstick and the top of the driver's helmet when the driver is sitting in his/her normal driving position."

Which part needed to get cut to fit the autopower bar. I have the same one, but it hasn't been installed yet.

Also, what seats are you running to get the adequate clearance and how tall are you (if you don't mind). I'm 6'2" and feel I would have a difficult time passing the broomstick test, even with a shorter seat.
