Just got around to fixing my annoying power door locks. The power door locks have not worked since I bought the car. Read on the board that there was a common failure in the mechanism. a small white plastic rod that connects the actuator to the door handle. Tore the doors apart and sure enough they were broken on both sides.

Ordered the new parts from the Porsche dealer. 2 of part #(94453751100) same for both sides. This was for a 91 944s2 cabriolet, not sure about other years. Job took about 1 hour for both sides. I would rate it easy on a difficult meter. Posting pics for those of you that were thinking about doing this job or if your door locks don't work and you were wondering why.

Now I have door locks that actually work. My girlfriend has stopped bitching at me all the time. I was also tired of leaning over to unlock the door.

Thanks for the info. It's information like this is why I love this list. Since I joined, I have learned how to fix my heater blowing hot all the time and now how to fix my power locks that don't lock.

I have a red/black 944 cab also. 1990 though. Next I have to figure out how to keep the window fuse from popping. My car leaks at the window to frame point and I think water has corroded the switch. Maybe I'll start a thread on this. Until then, thanks again for posting the fix. Your pictures are great.

Only returning the favor. I too have learned many things on the list. I don't need my mechanic anymore. He could never find the problems with my car. My last straw was when he kept telling me that 944's were suppose to idle the way my car did. Like crap I suppose. That's when I turned to this board and fixed the numereous problems my self. I think it's because all the 944's he worked on had bad idle's and he could not find the problem, so he disregarded it as normal. I will be posting many of my repairs on this board, full with detailed pictures to help out others with incompetent mechanics or porsche lovers that like working on their own cars. Thanks.

I have owned a 924. 1978 to be exact. My very first Porsche. Worked my way up to a 91 cabriolet.

As far as the 944 turbo, I just haven't found the right one yet. I think I will be selling my 86 944 n/a and move up to a 86 944 turbo this spring. This is something I have been trying to do for quite some time, but have been so busy restoring my 86 944 n/a

It's time to get a turbo!!!!! I know. Everyone keeps telling me to get one, but

The part is the same, but the procedure will only work on cars without the anti-theft panel. If you have the panel it blocks the linkage. However, you can still get to the attachment points by removing the door handle. There is a write up in my sig on the 968 Door handle Upgrade that details what you need to do to remove the handle.

I found that installing the pin and clip on the lock actuator first, then popping the plastic rod on the linkage at the rear second is the easiest way.

Of course that was after trying the hard way first. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

Great addition. I never even thought of that. Now looking back, it's seems to be the most logical way and a lot easier.

the power locks never work on my car since I bought it either......do all the later 944's have this...mine is an '86. If not, how can i easily tell if I do or not&gt;? thanks

If you have a power door lock button, then you probably have power door locks. Do the locks may a sound when you turn the key in the handle. Like a triggering mechanism, but nothing happens. If you have power door locks, but don't hear the acutators engaging, then the plastic piece is not the problem. More likely the switch. I would take the door panel off and see what is going on inside there.

I believe the part is the same for most years. Check with the dealer to see if there is a difference. Should be the same setup.
