Default '57 Speedster Barn Find sells for $600k

Wow,....
This is cool...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/356-speed...182002451.html

Makes me sad though, that my wife & I just missed out on the private sale of a 1956 pre-A Speedster here in our area. Friends of the family,... but the sale price just bumped up higher than we could afford. Gotta have it $$, to play with it I guess.

It was a cool car too, since it fit in that very narrow window where Porsche switched when they did their end-of-year vacations. As history research has given me a glimpse into that time frame in history, I understand that prior to the Fall of 1956, they use to take their vacations in the Oct / Nov months (verses after '56 when they started taking it in Aug / Sept). So this particular car was built in early Dec 1955, so it has all the pre-A hardware on the car, but the vin shows it as a '56. pretty cool.

Ahh well. C'estLaVie. My wife & I would have LOVED to one that one.

i chased that barn find speedster at auction.
by the time i bid 250k it immediately jumped to 350k, 450 ++

I had a feeling it would be at least 500K.

There was a 67S that went for 100k shortly after. I think that was a nice buy.

In lesser auction companies, sometimes there is a shill to bid on the car on behalf of the auctioneers so they will have a record price to crow about but I feel that company is on the up-and-up. I read the auction description where it was in the same owner's hands until his death and a family friend became involved. But my question is: did the family friend buy it and take it to the auction or did he just help the family sell the car? If he bought it first I can't believe he paid anywhere near that $660K price...
