So, I guess the best female rock/ blues singer doesn't have the "star power" of McQueen? WRONG!!!!
Plenty of people well past the golden years with boatloads of loot remember her.
Sad that it won't be publicly displayed for a while. I do agree removing the original artwork was a bad move.
If the was the original art, it would have probably went near double this.

If the auction house offered a guarantee then they made out like a thief in the night. Let's just say they guaranteed the seller $400,000 (the estimate). All the money above that was then split between the house and the seller.
If there was a 3rd party guarantor then it's even crazier. The 3rd party split the money with the seller (and maybe the house).
Third party guarantors are the dark side of the auction business. The auction houses won't even admit to their existence.

Insane, considering the family repainted the car back to its original color after Joplins dead, just to realize years later it was a mistake and then tried to recreate the artwork of the car again.
If it was the original artwork, maybe, but it is not and I think the price is way too high. I hope the buyer know this.

The car was painted grey and driven in Ohio for years by a family member before being repainted in Colorado at an Art Show. The current owners have a large collection of beautifully restored cars. I would think that they would improve it.

Just posting as I have been doing some reading on celebrity owned cars and their realized prices.
The price paid for this is not surprising to me as this was a high profile celebrity who died young, the car is certainly one of a kind.
It seems some celebrities have dozens of their cars sold...almost as if it is a calculated thing.
In this case, the car was photographed with her many times and if someone values the historical aspect, this is it...there aren't anymore of them.
The price paid might be considered low as this is likely , literally a once in a lifetime item for someone who values it...not like you can say "that was too much, I'll grab the next one that goes on the block"

The wife & I.... right after we won "Best Couple" in the 2015 French Lick PCA 60's Welcome Party competition.
This was the closest we will ever get to owning anything so outrageous.
... yes, agree that it was a shame not to have the original paint scheme stand the test of time.

Nice pics of of a fabulous Parade event in 2015.
That car is a tribute Joplin car based on a roadster body (original was a cabriolet) owned by a friend and hand painted by another local artist- both Michigan Porschephiles.
If youre a Joplin fan, you could probably purchase this one for a lot less than $M
