here is a repro of the correct lens... (click the hot linked type) except yours would be one without the VW logo... trust me... they don't grow on trees. There are millions without the "halo"... and only one in a million with the halo.

Latest snag is my uncle cashed my "gift", but never filled out the Bill of Sale, so I can go to the Secretary of State to get a title. I also had sent a long list of questions about the car's history, didn't respond to that either. Not sure where he's coming from... :-(

I used to live in Michigan, and if you can't get a bill of sale you should be able to at least file for a lost title. How far away does he live? Might not be a bad little trip to take in the Spring in the C4S to stretch it's legs after that long winters nap

My mom called...she had talked to my aunt, who mentioned they signed my bill of sale and are having it notarized. Filled out my questionnaire and will send it to me Monday! Whoopeeee! I cannot wait to read my uncle's responses to my many questions. That said, a long ride to mid-Michigan in the C4S is always a fine thought ha ha...

UPDATE. The reply finally came from my aunt and uncle. I now have a notarized bill of sale! Plan is to now get a MI title. My uncle did answer my questions. I'll post the Q and A here when I'm logged on to my home PC. Couple of strange facts. Car was only driven 6 years before tear down, yet possibly wore 3 different colors??? I have the name and phone number of 2nd owner from Lansing, MI. Very strange indeed. Stay tuned. 2003 Carrera 4S Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 Rust Red

sounds like a cool project. looks like you removed all the pics from this thread...how come. I and most likely others would love to see the pics. good luck with the project or selling it if that is what you decide to do.

Yeah, I am also on the 996 forum and had some pics there. There is a limit on Mb allowed for pics. This spring I intend to pull all the parts out of the car and catalog everything. From there, who knows. I'm hoping most everything is there, as the original engine, trans and body all match!

Update: TITLE. Ugh...secretary of state... Took my notorized Bill of Sale into the SOS today. The gal behind the counter said no can do to issuing a new title to me. Said my uncle has to apply for a replacement title. I barely got the bill of sale out of him. What a freakin mess. Neadless to say, I'm not a happy camper at the moment. And here is a pic of the extraction....

best thing to do is offer to pay your uncle to get off his *** and get a replacement title. That or a bottle of booze... whatever his fancy may be....

car will see light of day again! (or at least the vin tags and engine)

I gave him $500 for the bill of sale. That was an ordeal. He really wants nothing to do with it, is 80 years old and doesn't drink.

Made contact with the first owner's son today, he will dig around for pictures of the car. He said it was cream colored with red fender stripes and remembers it from 1955. So interesting...
