Default Wood Steering wheel $$$

So pardon me good folks in the 356 world, as a watercooled 4 cylinder guy I am a stranger here. Question is I have this lovely old 356 Wood Steering wheel a friend gave me - as a Donation to the Charity I work at. It will not fit the wheelchairs we recycle... so I need to sell it. Looking at the various 356 sites, the wheel is not a Nardi, nor a Darrington, nor a Moto Lita, and it does not look like an original Porsche item. There are nine screws holding it on the hub - like a Darrington - but there are no through the wood rivits in the rim. And the rim is ALL wood - no silver metal exposed around the rim. The three spokes look like a Moto Lita, and the horn button has the Porsche Crest set in a black ring. The friend had a 356A 20 years ago and sold it. He just recently discovered this in the garage but cannot remember if it was the original from the 356 or a spare he collected. So any help you can offer would be appreciated. I would like to find a buyer and ask a reasonable price to maximize the donation.

Default 356 Wood Wheel Pictures

JoAnne, If you are an "old Lady" I am Rip Van Winkle... Or is that all Photoshop magic? Any way I hope your husband treated you to a nice Valentine"s dinner. And thanks, I would appreciate some help on the mystery wheel. So here are some Pixs of the wheel.

Jack

I would contact Jeffrey Fellman at 866 868 0808.

www.classicowheels.com.

I'm sure he can ID the wheel for you.

Jim, Thanks for pointing me to Classico. Jeffery recognized the wheel as one of the reproductions they sold some time ago. It appears to be a replica of the Darrington style Hub for fitment to a 356, with the Nardi style spokes. So now all I need is a buyer...? Based on his input I guess the value is about $500.

Any idea the vintage of this wooden steering wheel? Is in a 1964 356C. Special, or not?

Dear Edgy01,
Found your post and photo on Rennlist forum. I have a vintage wheel that a friend owns and asked if I could restore it for him. It appears to be the exact same wheel as the one in your post. It has been damaged (probably in an accident) but is salvageable. I was wondering if you new any of the history of these wheels and their maker. The one I have has the same logo on the front, which I assume is the logo for Haan wheels and an original looking decal on the back that says "BUTLER ENGLAND" in silver text on a small black rectangular background. I would be interested in any information you can provide regarding the history and construction of these wheels.

Thanks much,

Cas
