Joanne,
Have you checked back on this post? The one where I listed your 993? there have been a few comments from people wanting more info. Not sure if you saw them or not. I had assumed you sold it or I would have sent it sooner.
Sorry for hi-jacking my own thread. :-)

Thank you for letting me know. They have the wrong email address listed for us. I think the ad came out while we were in the middle of moving and it was so crazy I never checked back to correct it.
We still ahve our 993. We didn't pursue selling it this winter, but now that it's spring, it's time to try selling it again. We know it is a very strong car, even the 993 guru Tony Callas says it's the strongest road car he's worked on. Personally I know it's by far the best running 993 we have ever owned. I also know we will not give it away to a bottom feeder like we did the "A" coupe. And there are LOTS of bottom feeders out there now, just like in real estate.
Thanks again for hijacking your own thread

Here's a 1949 SL factory racecar. It's been owned by Charlie Laforge of Los Altos, CA since 1957, and he takes it to the Monterey Historics every August, where these pics were taken. The following paraphrases the story board he shows with the car at Monterey.
Gmunds were aluminum-bodied, and the SLs were further lightened to less than 1400 pounds. This example is believed to have run at LeMans in 1951. It was imported by Max Hoffman in 1952, when the present 1.5 liter roller bearing racing engine was installed. It was raced in CA by dealer John Von Neumann and others in the early 50s. It was originally a coupe, but Von Neumann removed the top and converted it to a roadster shortly after he received it.
