Default 997 and (young) kids in the backseat...

I have a 3 yr. old daughter and another on the way, my question is who out there actually puts their young children in the back seats, i assume with car seats? Anyone? which car seat do you use? specifically interested in the back seats only, as my wife would take the front seat. Want to know if i can actually pack my entire family to be in the 997.

I sometimes pick up my daughter of 5 from school in my 997. Sometimes I take both girls for a ride (the other is 3) along with the wife in my car. Even the older girl needs a booster seat because otherwise the rear seat belt would cross her lower neck line. Average height kids around 6 or 7 should be ok without a booster.

IMO you should forget it if your car is a cabrio. The rear seat backs lean fwd to fit the convertible top which causes neck discomfort for rear set passengers.

Forget putting a baby seat in the rear...I bought one and had to return it ...you have to have the air bag deactivation kit for tiny babies and put them in the front seat....

Sorry!

My 5 and 7 year old were fine back there but for get the little one!

i use the volvo child booster seats with the back support for my two kids in the back of my 997 S coupe. they are more comfortable than just the booster seat alone. the height of these volvo back supports are adjustable depending on your child's size. my kids are 7 and 9 yrs old.

Both my kids use booster seats with back support (not baby seats) when riding in back. They never ride up front.

hmmm. Sounds like it's a potential go, i could use the Britax Roundabout for the new baby and a booster for the 3yo.

slightly OT.

my daughter is two years old 30 lbs, maybe a little more than that.
she sits in a recaro baby seat in the back of my S4 avant.
now the 9x7 cars have smart airbag, the owners manual states that forward facing baby seats are ok since the low wt will disable the airbag...

has anyone actually put child seat in the front of their 997, 987?

Untrue. I have 8,6, and 3 year olds. I have a 2005 C2S Cab. I use britax starriser boosters (without the back) for the 6 year old (the 8 year old has no booster). The 3 year old fits fine with a Century front facing five point car seat (about $30 at Toys R Us).

They have been in the car for hours.

For my 06 997 S coupe, I have my 4 year old in a graco booster in the rear seat passenger side and my 2 year old in a forward facing fivepoint car seat on the driver's side. The seat belt receptacle is in the way on both sides making the fit suboptimal, however. You really need narrow car seats for the 997 back seats in order to make them work.
Does the britax really fit well?

I regularly have 2 of my 4 children (ages 12, 10, 8 and 6) in the back seats of my 2005 997 cab and my oldest child (12) is permitted to ride in the front seat. The 2 younger children don't complain if they're in the back seat but if my older ones are, they will say it's a little cramped. Having said that, all are always happy to ride along with me b/c I'm driving a Porsche and they know I drive it fast. Hope that helps.

My just turned 4 y/o rides constantly in the back of my 997S coupe - preschool, shopping runs, plus three rennlist rumbles (longest a 5 hour drive). I recently got an Eddie Bauer leather child seat (for larger kids but still 5-point harness), which fits very well in the backseat (it has a narrow base). As soon as I wire up the airbag disable feature, my 7 mo. old son will ride in the front seat (when necessary) - no room for his car seat behind me as I need the seat almost all the way back.

A few years ago when my daughter was about 1, she rode in the front seat of my 986S (with airbag disable), even with the top down.

With kids you have to decide for them. Before purchasing I sat my kids in a cab and then the coupe. The best way I can describe it is to read their faces. In the cab they had this comatose look, facing down towards the front seat back. In the coupe they had a carefree gaze, often looking out the side window. That's when I decided it would take the fun out of the cab for me. I live for my kids and I know it's a minor point, but I didn't want to spend 105K with any regrets.

On some days, I car pool my 5 year old and a 4 year old neighbor in the back. The Britax Starriser Booster works great. I have a 997S cab and have had no problem with the slight forward tilt of the seat backs. Believe me, my daughter would tell me if she was uncomfortable! I have used the booster without the back rest attached (it can be removed from the Starriser), but have recently attached the back rest and it seems to be fine either way. The kids love it and are secure in the boosters. This is the whole reason I got the 997S cab rather than a Mercedes SL, or another cab without the back seats.
