I just have a quick question for what purpose the passenger side air duct serves? I thought I read it has something to do with the hot air either entering or exiting the engine. If anybody has a better understanding, would you please share your knowledge.

Just supplies some cooling air to the engine compartment. Also of course you have to match it with the one on the other side.
