REASON FOR THE CHANGE IS THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOBOX, BUT THE REST OF THE CAR IS PERFECT AND IT IS ALREDY" MINE".............JIM

It can be done, but it requires a lot of work. As Abby suggested it would probably be better to find an original 5sp. and work with that.

There is no provision for mounting the clutch master cylinder on the firewall zero, zip, nada,so you must get a chunk of firewall from a 5spd chassis cut yours and rivet , glue it in place(welding is a fire issue). The list of needed parts is EXTENSIVE and EXPENSIVE ....... thousands of dollars even used . The best way is to buy a complete wrecked S-4 , 5 speed car and park it beside the automatic and take off everything you need. Like bellhousing ,flywheel, central tube, all clutch items, clutch master, clutch slave , hoses, shift linkage, clutch pedal .....for it to have PSD it must be 1990 or newer . Your instrument cluster will still say PND32 unless you change the gauge. You have to overide the neutral safety switch and mickey mouse the reverse switch since the rear car harness is a bit different. And I am probably forgetting a few other things ......

I was actually thinking the same thing!

Jim - C'mon man, don't discourage him. Just because this is the equivalent to performing a sex change on a human, doesn't mean he's not up to the challenge!

Go for it!

I converted my auto to a 5sp by buying a five speed and having both. As everyone has mentioned "lots of dollars and lots of grief". By having two 928s you can work on one and drive the other, or there will be days when you prefer not to shift and drive the auto, or vice versa. Good Luck in your choice.

Hacker ,note that I never said it could not be done. I think we have "helped" 4 or 5 people who have done this conversion. The question is SHOULD it be done. That can only be answered by how badly does one wish to do it ? because from a financial point of view it makes little sense at all. If you tell me you are considering jumping blindfolded off a cliff ; I am probably going to point out how high the cliff is. Then it is your decision to jump or NOT. In this case I suggest he buy a parachute (a complete 5 spd parts car) before he jumps!
