brake rotor cooling vanes - direction?
I replaced the front pads on my 89 951 and noticed the cooling vanes inside the rotor, from hub to outside edge, angled into the direction of rotation of the wheel. I was always under the impression that they should angle away to facilitate the air flowing outwards from the center. It also would seem to be this way in just about every picture of race cars that I've ever seen. What have you seen on your cars?

Huh? The rotors are identical left/right (right?), so if the vanes are directional, the other one would be going the wrong way... looking at the ones I have right here, the vanes are actually pointing straight towards the center, not slanted either way. '86 951 so the rotor is not same as in your car though.

Sami, the TurboS cars use different left and right rotors. The vanes are curved, not straight as in the earlier cars.
The vanes should run so that as the wheel turns forward, it should pull air from the center and expell it at the edges. If it is scooping air from the perimeter, it is mounted backwards.
When I bought my car ('89), the PO had the same direction rotor on both sides. The rotor that was set up incorrectly cracked significantly more than the proper rotor after hard track use. Then it warped...
