How to Override a Faulty Clutch Sensor
My clutch sensor has been acting up lately, so I contacted Porsche in Greensboro about scheduling an appointment to replace the clutch sensor and a couple of other minor warranty items.
The Service Manager told me that if I had another issue with the clutch sensor prior to getting it replaced, that I should continue to depress the clutch and continue to hold the key in the "start" position for about 30 seconds, then the car would start.
Is it turned out, two days after he told me this I did get the "Depress Clutch Pedal" message. I held the clutch and the key as instructed and the car did start, just as the SM said it would. Apparently, the sensor fault lasts for about 30 seconds, after which the "disabling function" is turned off.
I thought this might help some other Rennlisters in the future.

I made mental note of it but didn't have anything to add. It's one of those things that's only useful when you're having the same problem. The next person searching for faulty clutch sensor will surely happen upon this thread so thanks for posting!

I thought that clutch switch was cheap and easy to change. Friend of mine had the same problem.

Sweet. Thanks, OP. Nice catch! I suspect that's gonna come in handy sooner rather than later.

Supposedly my car's VIN was not on the list for replacement, but after 4-5 incidents away from home, enough was enough. They did the change at no cost to me.

Mine was replaced under the recall (at least I think that's what the recall was for) but this is still handy-dandy information to know, thanks Tim!
So, Charlotte (Concord?) to Greenville to Winston-Salem, huh? I've lived in all of those cities, but not in that order.
I'm in Cary now.
No, that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, I just felt like sharing.

Good memory! Yes, Concord, NC to Dallas, TX to Greenville, SC to Winston-Salem NC. Have go where the work is. Damn mergers and acquisitions!
I'm traveling from W-S to Greenville and back to W-S each weekend, which is getting old. We'll have to hook up some weekend, when we get moved to W-S.
