What's your budget? Here's a list from highest to lowest. There are a lot more companies (Borla, GHL, etc.) but they are probably louder exhausts.

I have the Fabspeed.

No matter what anyone tells you, it drones slightly at 3000 rpm.

It sounds great at idle, and running through the rev range, but it drones. Not so much as I am fed up, but we all have our individual levels of tolerance.

Take a ride in a car with the exhaust you are planning on. That is the true test.

I have a Borla... drones bad from 2000-3000k... but it is inexpensive... and nice and loud... heh.
Best advice anyone can give you is to go and listen to a car that is the same car with the exhaust you are thinking about... I pretty much listened to a lot of youTube vids but they only go so far... in the end my wallet decided for me..heh.

Amazon Amazon

Note on my car installer had to use different bolts not included ... And yes drone is pretty bad...

If you do a lot of driving with the top up, even a Dansk sausage is going to drone and sound quite a bit louder than stock, if you are a top down most of the time guy you will like it.

Edit* You can order Borla direct and look at the unit there as well

I had a 98 986 too, it had a Dansk SS and headers, I liked the sound. Like I said, top up it's quite a bit louder no matter which unit you choose. The 986 engine being wound up is an awesome sound and this mod only makes the sound sweeter.

If I would do it again, I would retain the stock muffler, and get race cats and headers. This will make all the noise you need when you put your foot down, but not when you are cruising.

I would look at making the intake louder too.

I would do that but I still need to worry about emissions and race cats won't allow me to pass..

Then stick with stock cats.

Headers, keep the primary stock cats, and remove the secondary cats, dumped into stock muffler.

Seriously.

If you need it louder, consider modifying the stock muffler with the "Sebring" mod, also know as Pedro Hack. Primarily bypassing part of the exhaust gasses from going through the muffler, and and then rejoined right before the tail pipe.
