Default Rolex 24 at Daytona Prize Money

So, since it can cost upwards of $500,000 to run a single fully-supported GT car at the Daytona Rolex, essentially, NO ONE will break even without major ad sponsorship.

Lol. That doesn't even really cover the tire budget for anyone (except the DP winner).

I don't remember who said it first but "racing is the only circus where the clowns pay to perform"

How do you make a small fortune in racing?

Start with a big one.

Yes, but those figures don't include the value of the Rolex watches the winners receive.

They gotta be worth more than the GX prize money.

$500k for a GT effort? that's significantly higher than the numbers I've heard (like, more than double). source?

I know of 2 different Porsche teams charge $400-450k for the race (for the entire car, not shared). So that sounds about rite to me.. that doesn't even include a car maxed out to the rules (4.0L motor, RSR gearbox, etc).

interesting, I've heard $25-50k for a share (depending on quality/competitiveness of car, 4 or 5 drivers, etc) or ~$250k for the whole car. I've heard it from multiple good sources, but not in a "are you ready to write a check" context.

I was offered a GX ride for $60K for my seat.

I was told by a top team they are charging $375,000 for a full blown GT effort. If you think these numbers are crazy just compute the tire bill and fuel, crew etc. and you get the idea, it is not cheap to run a 24 hour race. Post race you have a worn out car that needs total refresh/replacement of all moving parts and engine rebuild.

Mike's numbers are what I've heard for top-5 level cars. Your number is what I've heard for mid-packers, less for no-hopers.

Front running GT effort will take $85K+ in tires, now that this race is just a 24-hour sprint!

2nd place GX will buy ONE stainless steel Daytona Cosmograph.

You could buy one on fleabay, but it wouldn't have the engraving on the back!
