Porsche 996 Turbo

This PorscheĀ is Cheap, But is it a Ticking Time Bomb?

If you want a deal on an expensive and exotic car like a 911 Turbo, concessions are usually in order. That includes looking for one that needs a little work, or one that has higher mileage. Combine those characteristics with a model that few love, like the 996, and now you’re really bargain hunting. Ā And this half-million mile 996 Turbo might be the cheapest around, with a selling price of only $17,995.

The well traveled but well maintained 2002 911 Turbo surfaced for sale in a Minneapolis, Minnesota,Ā Craigslist ad, reaching national prominence courtesy of Jalopnik. At first glance, it looks like your average, well-kept 996. But the odometer shot almost seems surreal, with an incredible 590,000 miles on the clock.

Helping suppress the price even further is the fact that this is a Tiptronic equipped car, but there are some enticing upgrades as well. A FabSpeed exhaust and upgraded turbochargers help boost horsepower from a factory rated 415 all the way up to 545. That’s some serious speed at a seriously discounted price. As long as things hold together when you mash the go pedal.

Porsche Club of America documented the hyper mile 996 back in June of 2015, after it reached 575,000 miles. Amazingly enough, the original owner logged every one of them. As you would imagine, quite a few parts were replaced over that span, including a whopping 124 sets of tires. The impressive mileage total came courtesy of many 800+ mile weekend trips.

Clearly, this 996 Turbo was, if nothing else, loved. And now it’s ready to go another half million miles in the hands of someone else. With a bargain basement price, they’ll have plenty of cash left over for another 100-plus sets of tires.
