#TBT: Porsche Was Smug and Unashamed, Even in 1983

It’s important to look at the past and recognize what Porsche was built on, and what it used to be. Amazingly, much of Porsche’s past has carried over to the present, and for that we’re glad. From their principles to their performance lineage, Porsche has a truly admirable foundation, and Porsche fans ought to be proud that they have stayed true to it. We know that we are. Of course, that doesn’t mean that one shouldn’t look back for a smile now and then.

This advertisement from the 1980s is a prime example of that. The ad starts by saying “Nobody’s perfect,” and then proceeds to list the top 10 finishers from the 1983 LeMans race. Porsche took the first eight spots, lost the ninth to Sauber/BMW, and then took tenth place as well. The smug and nearly sarcastic ad makes us grin from ear to ear, and we’re sure that you’ll all agree. After all, Porsche performance has always been top notch, and that’s something that never seems to change. That, and the company’s proud attitude.
