The gearheads of today have a duty: to drive your cars around as much as possible and have fun doing it. But there’s more: gearheads should also be aiming to inspire future generations of gearheads and keep the tradition going. There are a few simple ways to do this. You can show kids the movie Cars, take ’em to races, buy ’em some awesome Hot Wheels, or go about it the old-fashioned way and read ’em a freakin’ book. Remember those paper things?

That’s what Dwight Knowlton wanted to do, but when he searched for stories to show his son, he didn’t like what he saw. So, he wrote and designed his own book, The Little Red Racing Car, which was met with high regard. A few years later, and Knowlton is back at it again and asking for our help to fund the production of his newest story, The Small Silver Speedster: A Father/Daughter/Car Story.

The tale, naturally, is about a Porsche 356 Speedster and a father and daughter’s journey across the country via Route 66 on the way to a race. The action takes place right when the racing scene was emerging in the late ’50s and early ’60s. And the best part is that although it’s a fictional story, it is grounded in history and accurate research. Check it out, and if you like it, help push it over that $30,000 goal.
