Porsche to Investigate Issue, Which Could Lead to Airbags Not Deploying

Porsche released an official statement regarding a recall on the best-selling Porsche Macan. According to the press release, nearly 18,000 Macan models manufactured between March 2014 and October 20, 2015 must be recalled due to a faulty sensor mat for the occupancy detection system.

According to their internal investigation, the sensor located on the front passenger seat may fail, leading to a possible non-detection of a front passenger. As a result, the front passenger airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash, which is obviously extremely dangerous. A sign that your vehicle may be affected is if the airbag warning lamp or “Passenger Airbag Off” lamp remain on despite a passenger present. As of right now, Porsche is not aware of any reported accidents or injuries.

Porsche has stated that customers will be notified about the recall, and that the repair is estimated to take about 2.5 hours.
