New Generation Carrera GTS Sets ‘The Ring’ on Fire with Stock and Optional Pirelli Tires

Porsche’s 2017 911 Carrera GTS has set a blistering lap around Germany’s Nurburgring. How blistering? Porsche claims a whopping 12 seconds faster than the previous model — 12 seconds!

The Zuffenhausen squad claims their latest iteration of the upper-crust 911 lapped the 12.9-mile, 73-turn Nordschliefe in 7 minutes and 26 seconds. As a result, the new GTS is four seconds faster than the latest Carrera S. The outlandish time can be attributed to more than the 20 horsepower bump, 450 total compared to the previous generation’s 430. Porsche outfitted the new GTS with the wider body from the Carrera 4, active suspension management (in coupe only), and a standard sport chrono package.

Furthermore, they also made several outings at the legendary track, which is famously known as “The Ring,” on the new Pirelli P-Zero Corsa N0 tires. The larger and grippier tires resulted in another ridiculous record for the GTS, for a 7 minute and 22 second time. That’s four seconds faster than the stock tires. This set of new track-centric rubber tires will be available for purchase to any 911 owner who opts to spend time at the racetrack but owns 20-inch wheels. The exclusive tire will be available through TireRack.com, though U.S. pricing has not been released.

Available in dealerships across the country as early as April, the 2017 911 Carrera GTS will be offered in coupe, Targa and cabriolet. Will you be getting one?
